Students may select from the following Grade 9 music courses.
AMU 1O1 – Instrumental Music
This course emphasizes the creation and performance of music at a level consistent with previous experience and is aimed at developing technique, sensitivity, and imagination. Students will develop musical literacy skills by using the creative and critical analysis processes in composition, performance, and a range of reflective and analytical activities. Students will develop an understanding of the conventions and elements of music and of safe practices related to music, and will develop a variety of skills transferable to other areas of their life. Performance in Junior Concert Band is strongly encouraged.
AMK 1O1 – Music – Keyboards
This course is designed for students who have never studied piano or organ, or have studied privately for less than one year. Students will learn note names, time values, rhythms, and elementary piano technique. Some rudimentary chording, ear training, and composition will be practiced.
AMV 1O1 – Vocal Music
This course is designed for the student who wishes to study music through singing. Voice production and the study of choral repertoire comprises the greater part of the year’s work. Students will work on developing skills in sight singing. In addition, the rudiments of theory, ear training, history, listening, and music appreciation are also covered.
