Students may select from the following Grade 11 courses.
AMU 4M1 – Instrumental Music (University/College)
Prerequisite: AMU 3M1 or permission of the Department Head
This course enables students to enhance their musical literacy through the creation, appreciation, analysis, and performance of music. Students will perform traditional, commercial, and art music, and will respond with insight to live and recorded performances. Students will enhance their understanding of the function of music in society and the impact of music on themselves and various communities and cultures. Students will analyse how to apply skills developed in music to their life and careers.
AMG 4M1 – Guitar (University/College)
Prerequisite: AMG 3M1 or permission of the Department Head
Intermediate and advanced guitar techniques in both classical and popular styles will comprise the greater part of the year’s work. In addition, the rudiments of theory, ear training, history, listening, and music appreciation are also covered.
AMV 4M1 – Vocal (University/College)
Prerequisite: AMV 3M1 or permission of the Department Head
This course emphasizes the appreciation, analysis, and performance of music from the Romantic period and from the Twentieth Century. Students will concentrate on developing interpretive skills and the ability to work independently. The will also complete complex creative projects in which they make use of new technologies. This focus of the course is on vocal music.
AMK 4M1 – Keyboards (Univeristy/College)
Prerequsite: AMK 3M1 or permission of the Department Head
This course emphasizes the appreciation, analysis, and performance of music from the Romantic period and from the Twentieth Century. Students will concentrate on developing interpretive skills and the ability to work independently. The will also complete complex creative projects in which they make use of new technologies. This focus of the course is on keyboarding.
